The Third Asian Lepidoptera
Conservation Symposium and Training programme is jointly
organized by IUCN SSC South Asian Invertebrate Specialist Group
(SAsISG), Department of Zoology,
Bharathiar University
(BU),
Zoo Outreach Organisation
(ZOO) and
Wildlife Information Liaison
Development (WILD) in collaboration with invertebrate
conservation groups, research organizations, universities and
institutes as well as non-government organizations that work on
conservation biology across Asia. The 3rd ALCS will be held from
25 to 29 October 2010 at Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, southern India.
The theme of the 3rd
ALCS is
"Local community conservation
meeting Asian Lepidoptera conservation needs"
The key areas of 3rd ALCS are to:

investigate the use of
iconic / endemic flagship Lepidoptera species to promote
habitat conservation through community involvement;

assess priority areas /
communities for Lepidoptera conservation initiatives at the
local level that has global conservation impact;

provide tools for
species status assessment;

train participants in
moth and butterfly identification skills
-
explore aspects of moth
and butterfly conservation ecology, management and needs;
and
-
Promote public education featuring these
useful and charismatic insects.
Target groups
The symposium is open to anyone interested in moth and butterfly
conservation, policy, social, ecological and livelihood related
aspects.
Students, researchers and academics, policy makers, government
officials, non-government and community based organizations and
volunteers will find the symposium an ideal opportunity to
enhance their understanding of the subject, meet with their
counterparts and experts from Asia and rest of the world and
share their expertise and experiences with others.
We also welcome members of the corporate and industrial
community who are potential stakeholders in the Lepidoptera
conservation debate, to interact with experts in the field, and
demonstrate their support towards conservation.
