Education Officer attends 4th
AZEC in Fukuoka, Japan
Workshop

The
Asian Zoo Educators gather every two
years in a conference to share and
discuss the recent zoo education
developments in Asian Region. The first
conference was held at Singapore in 2007
and followed by Hong Kong and Taipei.
The fourth AZEC conference
was held at Marine World
Umino nakamichi in Fukuoka Prefecture,
Japan from 9-13, December 2013 with
the theme of “Educational Cooperation
between Museums for Humanities and
Sciences - A message of generating new
life through new linkages”. The earlier
AZEC conferences focused on zoo and
aquarium communities. However the 4th
conference was held in cooperation with
museums dedicated to the humanities from
all over Asia.

At
this conference, ZOO’s Education Officer
Mr. Rengasamy Marimuthu participated as
a sponsored delegate and gave a
presentation on “Zoo Outreach
Organization (ZOO) promotes Conservation
Education in South Asia” with a focus on
International Vulture Awareness Day
promoted in South Asia and carried ZOO
education kits sample copies to give
away to the participants. In total there
were 2 keynote addresses, 25 oral
presentations, 32 poster presentations
and 4 workshops were held.
