Working Group at the CBSG Meeting

In October 2013, Sally R. Walker, Zoo Outreach Organization’s Founder and Mg. Trustee attended a series of zoo and conservation meetings in Disney Resort facilities in Orlando Florida. These annual meetings bring together members of the IUCN SSC Conservation Breeding Specialist Group and the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Much of their work takes place in small working groups.

Committed CBSG members for CO2 to 501ppm

The first day consisted of a meeting of the CBSG Strategic Committee which discussed a range of important topics relevant to zoo and wildlife conservation in various forms.The following day the 2.5 day CBSG meeting was convened. Much of the meeting was devoted to CBSG’s global movement for bringing atmospheric levels of CO2 back to 350ppm which will bring about improvement of life on earth. Members who committed to this movement got a t-shirt.

Welcome to WAZA Conference Day One

WAZA Conference
The WAZA conference took place the day following the end of the CBSG meeting and all participants were treated to a very dramatic welcome with music, people mimicking animals and speeches. Welcome addresses were given by representatives from Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Florida Dept. of Envi. Protection, Association of Zoos & Aquariums and World Associations of Zoos and Aquariums.

BS Bonal, CZA MS updates WAZA Council on 2014 Conference

Later in the meeting Sri. B.S. Bonal, Member Secretary of the Central Zoo Authority formally invited WAZA members to attend the conference that CZA will host next year in November. B.S. Bonal has invited Dr. Gerald Dick, E.O. WAZA and Sally Walker to act as Advisors to the Core Committee of CZA in preparation for the 2014 Conference.

ZOOKEEPING
Sally Walker has been asked to review the 667 pp book entitled ZOOKEEPING which is an outstanding treasure trove of information. She is giving special attention using ZOOS’ PRINT to promote it. Sally met Dr. Mark Irwin about 3 years ago when he had just begun working on the book.
